Best of 2024

2024 was another special year. Politically, it was a rollercoaster of emotions that – the longer it went on – turned into a house of horrors.

On the bright side – or maybe just the escapist side – our readers (yes, that’s you) had a healthy appetite for fairy tales and alien abductions. And honestly, who could blame you? When Earth feels like it’s auditioning for Doomsday: The Musical, fleeing to a galaxy far, far away or hiding in the woods with a talking wolf starts to feel like a solid plan.

Old and Peaceful

One of the great things that happened was the release of our book Once Upon a Workday at Andrews McMeel Universal. What an honor to release a second book at the same publishing house that gave us Peanuts and Calving and Hobbes!

Happy End

Alien Press Conference

Comic by War and Peas. Panel 1: Two green aliens are at a press conference, sitting behind microphones. One alien happily says, "Jesus? We love that guy!" Panel 2: A human reporter with a microphone looks surprised and says, "We’ve been waiting centuries for his second coming." Panel 3: The first alien casually responds, "Really? He comes to us every year." The second alien adds, "We invited him for cookies. What did you do?" The reporter starts to sweat. Panel 4: Both aliens pause, looking inquisitive. One alien asks, "Wait. What did you do?" All reporters sweat.

Pond Orgy

4 Panel Comic by War and Peas. 1. Panel: A princess holding a frog in her hand and giving it a kiss. 2. Panel: In a big "Poof" a princ appears. 3. Panel: Several princes are standing together. "Welcome to the club" says one to the newly transformed prince. The prince answers, "Huh?". 4. Panel: We see the princess in the background kissing another frog. A new prince has appeared in a poof of clouds to the left of her. The princes in the foreground are observing this and he says to the other, "She wants to have a big pond orgy."

Buttercup

4-panel comic by War and Peas. Panel 1: A cow looks up at a UFO hovering in the sky, excitedly saying, “It’s happening!” Panel 2: The cow closes its eyes, pleading, “Please take me. Please take me.” Panel 3: Another cow is being lifted into the UFO by a beam of light, yelling, “Nooo!” while the first cow watches, shocked. Panel 4: A human woman, the thirsty scientist, known from the War and Peas comics, was under the cow costume. She's now holding the cow mask under her arm looking into the sky dissappointed, saying, “Buttercup! You fucking bitch.”

Imagine

Ancient Aliens

One says to the other, "You've outdone yourself this time, Babuthep." 2. he continues, "You'll be remembered for this throughout history!" 3. "It's a testament to human ingenuity." 4. time jump to the present day. At an alien conference, someone speaks to an audience, "It was aliens!"

Kelly

He goes, "Argh, what is it?" 3. Panel: He leans over to the screen that the ping came from and just clicks "accept". he says, "Yeah, sweety, whatever, here you go." 4. Panel: Kelly is riding a giant cat that is destroying an entire city"

Red Riding Hood

4 panel comic by War and Peas 1. Panel: Little Red Riding Hood is sitting in front of a documentary camera. Someone off-camera asks, "So, you were the one who found the wolf at your grandmother's?" 2. Panel: The big bad wolf is also sitting in front of a camera sharing his side of the story. He says, "Listen, I have a thing for older broads, ok?" 3. Panel: Someone off-camera asks, "So, when you say you ATE grandma-" The big bad wolf interrupts them, "Listen, I know how to please a woman." 4. Panel: Back to Little Red Riding Hood. She crying and says, "Years of therapy... TURN OFF THE CAMERA!" 

Born Rich

4-panel comic by War and Peas. Panel 1: A baby in the womb prays, "Please let my parents be rich." Panel 2: A doctor holds the baby after birth, and the baby says, "Show them to me." Panel 3: The doctor presents the baby’s new family, revealing the Trump family. Panel 4: The baby is shocked and says, "Put me back in."

The Muse

4 panel comic (Yonkoma) by War and Peas. 1. Panel: A writer sits by her desk. She says, "Everyday, I sit here trying to think of a great idea." 2. "Waiting to be kissed by the muse." 3. A moose suddenly appears at the window and shouts "I'm ready!" 4. The writer is annoyed and goes, "Goddammit, Frank! I SAID MUSE!"

Ginger Lemon

4 panel comic by War and Peas: 1. Panel: A little girl summoned a demon. The demon goes, "Feed me fresh souls!" 2. Panel: The girl answers "I only have tea." 3. Panel: "It's ginger lemon." 4. Panel: The demon goes, "Tea is fine, too!"

Bunch of D!cks

4-panel-comic by War and Peas: 1st Panel: A black cat (Lord Nibbles) and a mummy are sitting at a poker table. Both are laughing. Someone outside the picture asks, "What is so funny?" 2nd Panel: It's a vampire with male genitals drawn with a red sharpie on his face. He asks "Did you draw something funny on my face while I was dozing off?" 3rd Panel: He leans towards a mirror but there's no reflection. He says, "You guys know I can't see myself in the mirror." 4th panel: He looks at them angrily and says, "It's another bunch of dicks, is it?"

Princess

4 Panel Comic by War and Peas. 1.Panel: a knight kneels before a tower. He exclaims up to the window "Princess, I'm here to rescue you". 2.Panel: The princess answers "From What? I have HBO max, ramen, and an extensive collection of vibrators." 3. Panel: She pauses and looks back into her room in the tower. 4. panel: The princess calls down "Actually you could get me some batteries."

Alpha Species

Panel: They present an alien gift to an orange cat who sits on the top of a couch and say "We come in peace." 3. Panel: The alien gift sits next to the cat who looks at the it. 4. Panel: The cat pushes the gift off the couch.

Crystals
